Tasheina Canty-White

Email | Social Media | Biography

Deeply rooted in Gospel music, Tasheina is also a beautiful classically trained soprano. She is skilled in genres that range from traditional and contemporary gospel, American Popular Music, to Classical and Art Songs. She holds a deep passion for spirituals, anthems, and hymns, both acapella and accompanied, as they best showcase her soulful, angelic soprano virtues. Often called an 'uplifter,' her audiences experience the joy and elation she feels towards her music.

A native of Statesboro, Tashenia's gift has been cultivated at home and afar. She began singing with her mother, a gospel pianist and vocalist, at the age of three. Her mother, Cynthia, began training her as the only child in an all-adult choir at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church of Metter, GA. As a young adult, she studied voice under the auspices of Dr. Gregory Broughton at the University of Georgia and Dr. Andrea Price of Piedmont College. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy and a Master of Arts in Music Education.

Though classically trained in voice, Tasheina felt her calling to offer her vocals to ministry. Tasheina has served as worship leader of several ministries. She served as artist in residence at Ousley United Methodist Church in Lithonia, GA in 2011. She later served as vocalist and musical director at Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers, GA. Since relocating back to the Southeast, Tasheina has served on the Worship team of Crossroads Community Church in Statesboro, GA. During the pandemic, she received an opportunity to minister virtually. She served as the virtual praise and worship leader for the Abundant Life AME Church from May of 2020 to July of 2021.

Additionally, Tasheina joins her mother and sister to form a dynamic trio, The Canty Singers, as they perform both contemporary and traditional gospel, and spirituals throughout the southeast. They have released a single, “Ooh Jesus,” and she looks forward to completing a solo album project of original songs and spirituals in the near future. Tasheina is currently an elementary school music teacher, and she writes original children’s musicals for her students. Her most accomplished title is mother. She is the mother of two amazing sons, Tyler Aaron and Trenton Andrew.
