A state of emergency has been declared in Bryan County in response to a tornado that touched down in the Pembroke and Ellabell areas on April 5, 2022. According to the National Weather Service, the EF-3 tornado with wind speeds reached 165 miles per hour and killed a 66-year-old woman along with injuring 12 other people
.
The tornado traveled eleven miles starting in Pembroke, at 5:19 p.m. Tuesday. They said the twister was about 1,300 yards wide.

After assessing damage reports, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said a State of Emergency is needed to provide the county with much-needed funds and resources.
